Serving 94.1 million subscribers, Verizon has now become the number 2 mobile wireless carrier in the United States. Improving its network and deploying the high-end LTE and HD voice technologies, Verizon anticipates its dominance over the US Internet market in near future.

Foreseeing the mobile Internet market potentials, Verizon Wireless, a joint venture of British Vodafone and US Verizon Communications with 45% and 55% ownership deal; expanded their wireless network in US after the acquiring Alltel with $28.1 billion deal value. Merging with Alltel’s CDMA network, Verizon became the major CDMA carrier that supported all 3 CDMA technologies such as IS-95, 1X and EV-DO.

In order to match up with the newest telecommunication tends, Verizon spends more than $5.7 billion every year to improve and maintain its network and quality. Their latest technological implementation was EV-DO Rev A, which enabled them to offer services such as wireless broadband, voice and 3G to their subscribers. Using the advanced version of this technology, their Smartphones users and PC cards users were able to obtain an upload speed up to 1.8 Mbps and download speed up to 3.1 Mbps.

After deploying Femtocell technology Verizon developed stronger wireless network. Their advertisements and marketing slogans were beautifully timed and it attracted many mobile wireless subscribers. They offered packages and multi-media services in their plans, which included V CAST, video on demand and Get-In-Now. Their iPhone sales struggled initially but later, it picked up the market.

After successfully transiting their networks in to 4G LTE standard, Verizon performed many tests before announcing their 4G packages for their subscribers. They have also announced their joint venture with Qualcomm Inc. for the M2M machine to machine wireless and smart services such as the smart grid technology which will directly connect their sub-station equipments, transformers and circuit breakers. This will allow them to deploy interactive network utilities that will be more reliable, intelligent, self-balanced and resilient.

Verizon will shift from their present CDMA platform to LTE platform in a series of segments. This change in the network technology will enhance operability to their worldwide travelling customers. Thus, their modern networks might sound beneficial for them in coming years.
